Brett has been a united church minister and a freelance journalist since 1993 - serving churches in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. His smallest church was 5 people and his largest would be as chaplain of the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
“When I first said I wanted to become a minister, it was at a time when friends and family could not understand the choice. It was the 1980’s and the church was losing influence and relevance. I responded simply that I wanted to change the world. Quite a few years have passed, and we are still here. I no longer have the naive view that I can change the world, but I still maintain that the church is a place where we can come to find love and meaning, and be changed. Church for me is a transformative space where we come to find God and share our experience. To this end everyone is welcome”
